Safer Buildings

The use of combustible cladding on buildings is a safety concern for Queenslanders. Building owners are responsible for ensuring the safety of occupants.

The Queensland Government has recently amended the Building Regulation 2006 ( https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/asmade/sl-2018-0110 ) (Building and Other Legislation Cladding Amendment Regulation 2018). New laws apply in Queensland from 1 October 2018. Building owners may be required to register their buildings and complete the combustible cladding checklist.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is contacting owners of buildings in Queensland who may be required to register and complete the
combustible cladding checklist as part of Safer Buildings.

Regardless of whether an owner receives a letter or not, owners of buildings in Queensland that are a class 2 – 9 building, of type A or B construction, built or have had the cladding altered after 1 January 1994 but before 1 October 2018 must register.

Failure to register and complete the combustible cladding checklist is an offence and may result in disciplinary action from the QBCC

The Combustible Cladding Checklist Process

Safer Buildings

Building and Other Legislation Cladding Amendment Regulation 2018 commences 1 October 2018

*The majority of buildings will not have combustible classing and will not require further assessment by a building industry professional or a fire engineer. Dependingon whether QBCC has any further questions, you may not be required to complete all 3 parts of the combustible cladding checklist.
